Chapel Hill inspires Ithaca MLK process
Derek Alderman of ECU, a cultural geographer who paid close attention to our process of changing the name of Airport Road to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, recently visited Ithaca, N.Y., where they have a similar name change on the table. He told them how we retained the "Historic Airport Road" designation in small letters. Apparently they like the idea. It has helped revive a proposal that seemed headed for failure. Says Derek: "I think it has real promise for other communities."
