Affordable housing: designed for living

This article in the N&O last week caught my attention. Over in Raleigh, Habitat for Humanity and the Triangle Young Architects Forum of the AIA sponsored a design competition. The winner is quite amazing! Take a look at the pictures. At 1,070 sq. ft. and complying with every basic specification for Habitat, including that it be buildable by laypersons, this house "transcends affordability."

Meanwhile up in Manhattan, a MacArthur fellow has designs on permanent supportive housing for the homeless.
